When you are trying to lose weight, it is important to track your calorie intake. If you have never done this, you may really be surprised how many calories you are eating each day. If you are eating more calories than you are burning, you will gain weight – so this is an important piece to know.

If you are serious about losing weight, you may want to get a fitness tracker. With a fitness tracker you can see how many steps you take a day, how many active minutes, some show sleep numbers, calories burned, etc. Since losing weight is a numbers game – calories in vs. calories out, it is important to know your numbers.


Get 10,000 Steps/Day

It is recommended to get in 10,000 steps every day. If you are starting out from being sedentary, gradually increase your steps over time.

Cardio and strength training are important to lose weight and build muscle. At a gym you have a bunch of cardio machines and strength training equipment at your disposal. There are also a bunch of fitness classes that you can take, that people oftentimes find fun. If you don’t know where to start, there are personal trainers at the gym that can help you.


Get More Sleep

Most adults need between 7 and 9 hours of sleep each night. If you get too little of sleep, cortisol levels in your body rise and can contribute to weight gain. Sleep is when your body repairs itself and has many health benefits. Get into a sleep schedule so you are able to get enough sleep each night.


By adding in more activity and being mindful of what you are eating, you will be well on your way to getting in shape.
