7 Great Tips for Beginning Your Weight Loss Regiment
If you are looking to lose weight, it can be hard to figure out where to start. Everywhere in the media, there are advertisements for quick fixes or advise on how to lose weight quickly. Well I’m sorry to say, there is no quick fix. Weight loss takes time, hard work, patience, and persistence. It’s about old-fashioned diet and exercise. Here are some tips to get you started:
Drink More Water
Water is very important to the body and to the weight loss process. In general you should drink between a half an ounce and an once for each pound that you weigh. So if you currently weigh 150 pounds that would mean you should drink between 75 and 150 ounces per day.
Shop the Perimeter of the Store
Around the perimeter of the store lies the good food that should make up the bulk of your diet: lean meats, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Cut down on any processed foods – like boxed or canned foods as they contain a lot of sodium, preservatives and other additives that aren’t good for you.
Track Your Food
When you are trying to lose weight, it is important to track your calorie intake. If you have never done this, you may really be surprised how many calories you are eating each day. If you are eating more calories than you are burning, you will gain weight – so this is an important piece to know.
Track Your Activity
If you are serious about losing weight, you may want to get a fitness tracker. With a fitness tracker you can see how many steps you take a day, how many active minutes, some show sleep numbers, calories burned, etc. Since losing weight is a numbers game – calories in vs. calories out, it is important to know your numbers.
Get 10,000 Steps/Day
It is recommended to get in 10,000 steps every day. If you are starting out from being sedentary, gradually increase your steps over time.
Join a Gym
Cardio and strength training are important to lose weight and build muscle. At a gym you have a bunch of cardio machines and strength training equipment at your disposal. There are also a bunch of fitness classes that you can take, that people oftentimes find fun. If you don’t know where to start, there are personal trainers at the gym that can help you.
Get More Sleep
Most adults need between 7 and 9 hours of sleep each night. If you get too little of sleep, cortisol levels in your body rise and can contribute to weight gain. Sleep is when your body repairs itself and has many health benefits. Get into a sleep schedule so you are able to get enough sleep each night.
By adding in more activity and being mindful of what you are eating, you will be well on your way to getting in shape.
